If you need to purchase a lock or other related door/window furniture or hardware, you can always go online. But it is often a ‘minefield’ of trying to identify the right part and the best place to get it. So this article looks at where to buy locks in Witham.
Retail businesses have struggled recently in Witham, so it is always good to support the local economy instead of the likes of Amazon, etc. Plus, you are more likely to get advice from a local retailer on what it is you actually need.
And you can always contact Lock Guy, your local professional independent locksmith in Witham to carry out any lock related task. But if you want to tackle the task yourself and you need/want a local retailer to purchase the necessary hardware, then this article should help.
Witham has a population of over 27,000 people (according to the 2021 Census) and is a diverse town with a long history that is continually growing in size, particularly in recent years. That means there is a wide variety of locks and hardware fitted to the homes and properties in Witham.
Due to it’s location between Chelmsford and Colchester, there is evidence of habitation from the Neolithic period, through to Roman occupation. The name Witham dates back to the year 913.
Witham has been an affluent spa town (18th century) and before that was the centre of the wool trade.
The town as we know it now started from the Chipping Hill area and some of the buildings still have historical significance with grade II listed status. Changes on these properties to doors, windows, locks, handles, etc… need to be done with approval and taking into account the historical significance of the property.
Witham has seen a lot of developments recently and there are more planned. Notably, this includes The Mulberries at Lodge Park (Hatfield Road – 750 homes developed initially by Redrow) and Beech Grove Homes (Conrad Road – 150 homes initially by Southfields).
There have been a number of reported issues on these new homes with cheap/low quality locks & locking mechanisms fitted by the developers. If you’re suffering from this issue, give Lock Guy a call (07827 071812). Braintree District Council’s plan is calling for an additional eight sites in Witham comprising 3000 homes!!
Unfortunately, in November 2024 Mondys Ironmongers, based in Witham High Street, closed after over 100 years of serving the community! This is a great loss as they used to stock a multitude of items and had lots of experience and advice to give and were a great place to buy locks in Witham. This is a sad trend and leaves Witham lacking a truly independent local place to go for hardware items such as locks.
