When selecting a door lock for your property, there are a vast array of manufacturers and models available. Ultion have recently released their Ultion 3 Star PLUS Lock with ALPS Technology which is a euro cylinder lock that can be fitted to a variety of doors that accept this type of euro profile. In this article, I’ll conduct a product review of the Ultion 3 Star PLUS Lock, take a closer look and give my verdict on it.

The branding is certainly very eye-catching and mentions all the main key/selling features as well as the £5000 guarantee.
It mentions the “ALPS” Protection, although it does not explain on the box what this means (it stands for Always Locked Protection System).
The packaging is a bit larger than some of their competitors which is a bit of a pain for us mobile locksmiths where space can be a premium in the van.
The lock itself looks very cool and high-tech.
The keys come with an additional key fob compared to previous Ultion models highlighting the additional security features it has.
The operation of the lock is smooth and trouble-free.
So far so good!
It comes with the 3* Diamond Assured rating meaning that it has been through and passed the most rigorous industry standard testing available.

The lock has also been cycle tested to demonstrate it’s long-term reliability. Most 3 star euro cylinder locks are tested to 100,000 cycles, but the Ultion 3 Star PLUS Lock with ALPS Technology has been tested to more than 750,000 cycles without failure!
The key is a horizontally operated key that is 33% thicker than a standard key. This makes it a lot stronger and less susceptible to breaking.
They keys are security controlled in that each key comes with a unique code that is registered to the owner and only that person can authorise further keys to be copied.
Additional copies of the key must be ordered from approved dealers or from Ultion directly.
The lock comes with a £5000 guarantee meaning that if someone breaks into your home through the lock (as long as it was fitted properly), then you will get £5000. This basically demonstrates the confidence the manufacturer has in the security of its product.
Be aware that these locks do require maintenance by applying a graphite lubricant every 9-12 months. Failure to maintain the lock can lead to future problems. Particularly if the lock is fitted in a busy area with lots of passing traffic and dust. The thicker key means a wider keyway making it more susceptible to debris getting into the lock and potentially affecting its smooth operation.
This is the British Standard that covers the residential doorsets and windows that offer an enhanced security performance against opportunistic burglars. The standard was amended in 2024 to keep up with the latest methods used by burglars to break into properties.
The Ultion 3 Star PLUS Lock with ALPS Technology is the first lock to pass this latest standard demonstrating that it meets the toughest security standards.
There are lower cost 3 star high security euro cylinders on the market, but none of them are proven to withstand so many different forms of attack. If you are serious about protecting your property, then getting an Ultion 3 star lock with ALPS protection is definitely a good idea.
