Lock Guy is the business name for my job as a professional independent locksmith. Along with the day job of resolving all those lock related issues and needs around Essex, I also have the pleasure of giving talks to various groups in the local community.
The intention was never to do public speaking, it was always on being a locksmith. However, in the course of explaining to some friends what I do, what is involved and some of the situations I have found myself in, the invitation to speak at my village hall to the local Women’s Institute was received.
The talk seemed to be enjoyed by all and I received some positive feedback and I was encouraged into giving talks more often by various audience members. Some of those women from the original talk were members of other groups and passed on my details and the word has since spread further.
People often find it interesting to hear more about the locksmith profession as there are a lot of things that you probably never knew.
It offers insights about life as a locksmith as well as stories about encounters I have had.
The talks I do also provide some useful practical hints and tips about the locks in your home and how to be as secure as possible.
I am not a professional public speaker by any means and there are many talented speakers available to choose from. I am not trying to make money from giving talks. All I can offer is a genuine locksmith trying to give an interesting, sometimes humorous and useful talk.
There is absoloutely no sales pitch – although for context I do explain about the locksmith services I offer and of course if anyone wants a business card after a talk, they are very welcome.
I have since passed the audition to become a speaker with the Essex WI and am now included in their official speakers list.
I have not always been Lock Guy. In fact, I had quite a major career change as I was approaching 50 years old – so I also cover what it is like to have a drastic career change.
The talks I give usually cover how I got into locksmithing, what I do as a locksmith, how a locksmith might decide to gain entry (without teaching how to break-in to houses of course), some tales of being a locksmith and my top tips for home security.
There is also always the opportunity for any questions and answers.
If you listen to a talk from Lock Guy, you will get to hear about some of the jobs that were a little more interesting. Sometimes these are funny, surprising and interesting. For example, you might get to hear about any of the following:
The focus is always on being a full-time, indepenent professional locksmith – but the talks are enjoyable and are a way of giving a little back to the local community.
If you are looking for a public speaker in Essex and are after something a little different or would like some more information, then contact Lock Guy.
